A Case of Early Supraglottic Cancer Treated with Transoral CO₂ Laser Supraglottic Laryngectomy

Abstract

|
It is attractive to consider treating early squamous cell carcinomas of the supraglottic larynx with transoral carbon dioxide(CO₂) laser supraglottic laryngectomy. Recently, we experienced a case of early supraglottic cancer. A 70-year-old male presented with 5×5 mm involving the epiglottis. It had ulcerative fungating mass. The patient had many underlying disease. He received a transoral CO₂ laser supraglottic laryngectomy. Report indicated superior functional outcome to open surgical procedures, with shorter hospital duration, less morbidity, and equivalent survival rates. The CO₂ laser can be used to treat T1, T2 lesion and some T3 lesion, especially in a patient with underlying disease.
